I am James Ip, the founder of iP Studio and Design, established in 2022.
I was first intrigued in the world of architecture by the usage of space that people occupy for their daily necessities. I studied architecture at the University for the Creative Arts in Canterbury for three years and earned a Merit. To help develop further after graduation, I applied for Part I work placement at the BLDA Architecture at Chelsea Harbour. The practice specialises in high-end residential and commercial projects in Central London. This was a key moment in my architectural career, as this was the first time I was introduced to the work environment of an architectural practice.
In 2019, I returned to academics to study architecture as a postgraduate, at the University of Greenwich in London and graduated in 2021 with a Merit.
In 2022, I worked with a project manager from awkDesign, for freelance work. This included creating planning applications for small-scale domestic projects and building regulation work across the UK. Later during the year, I worked as a Part II role assistant at BB Partnership in Islington, where I was greatly involved in the planning and drawing stages of several high-end residential projects.
Project “Imaginary Landscape” is part of the 2024 project consisting of landscapes taken at various parts of the world. The existing buildings are replaced with imaginary everyday objects. The imaginary landscapes vary depending on how the existing landscapes can be re-interpreted by the viewer.
